Region 5 Hall of Fame

2023 Region 5 Hall of Fame

The “Spirit of the Midwest Hall of Fame” award is given each year to members who have had a profound impact on all of us in region 5. This prestigious honor is the highest recognition we as a Region have to offer members who have earned our admiration and respect through their regional and/or their international impact. Activities and involvement of the nominees must be at the regional or international level, not exclusively at the chorus level.

This year’s selection committee had an incredibly challenging task. They had several wonderfully strong nominations and narrowed it down and selected two very qualified and worthy nominees.

Beth Hager

Beth Hager joined Sweet Adelines in 1996, first singing in a LARGE chorus a few states East of us. “When she joined Region 5,” her Director says, “it didn’t take long to discover what a gem she truly is. She jumped in with both feet helping on the Visual Committee and then joined the chorus Management Team as Finance Manager. She helped her chorus look ahead financially and created a 2-3 year plan that truly put her chorus on a road to Success.”

And soon her talents were recognized by the Region and she joined the Regional Management Team. She has spent many hours offering her financial expertise and leadership to other chapters. She instituted financial structures and budgets for her chorus and the region that have allowed the leadership of both the RMT (Regional Management Team) and RCSC (Regional Convention Steering Committee) to ensure viability, especially during the challenging years of Covid, when we had to break one contract after the other, with minimal loss of funds.

Kris DeWeese

Kris DeWeese is a 24-year member and is an active member of three choruses!!  Yes, three.

She has held many chorus positions as well as Membership Coordinator and Team Leader. She assisted the financial coordinator in finance conversion to quick books, and she has been Assistant Director. She has great skills in all areas and each of her three choruses responded with “when a task or need surfaces, she is the first to raise her hand and say, ‘I’ll take care of that’.”   She actively supports community performances, fund raisers and all chorus activities.

When the boundary changes from Region 7 took place, she stepped forward again, this time at the Regional level and said I can do that and put her name in the hat for Competition Coordinator, and was readily approved by the RMT, and International appointed her to this position which she still serves.

Kris has impacted each member of Region 5 as competing members approached and crossed the competition stage. Region 5 is incredibly grateful for the stellar job she has done in guiding the region each competition, addressing changes of venue, emergency situations, a pandemic and whatever snafu came her way.

CONGRATULATIONS BETH & KRIS!
